Clearing the culvert

One by one...

The process of clearing the snow from the Road is only half the battle. The other half is clearing the culverts. Throughout the course of the winter, the culverts on the Road become packed with ice. We can't open the Road until we can be certain the the spring melt will flow under the Road and not over it. Water over the Road leads to damage, which, as you can guess, we like to avoid.

Clearing the culverts is a time consuming process. First, the crew has to find them, and then they can clear them out. It takes a long time, a lot of patience and a lot of work.

Here's what it looks like:

More updates to follow.

The music is usually the hardest part...finding something that works just right. Luckily, I have a big library. Heading back up today, so look for more updates soon!

Hi Ryan - Loved the video and music. Really lets us see what is going on up there! Can I ask you a technical question? What software do you use to put your video together? Do you have a camcorder or use a digital camera for the video? Thanks and keep up the great postings!

Hi Nancy - Glad you're enjoying the vids. More on the way soon! As far as the technical question, nothing fancy. We have an Olympus digital camera that, obviously, also shoots video. I edit all the videos in iMovie on a MacBook.

The is not easy work. Ofcourse noone said it would be, but to be on the side of the mountain and clearing out a culvert on such a blue bird day. Wow, it has to be the good life. There is no doubt that the road crew really put their time in. And they are really good at it too. Some might think it simple, but it really isn't . Hats off to the crew, they get er done!!
