Nordic Meisters Begins Its Thirteenth Season at Great Glen Trails
(More news)Pinkham Notch, NH—Nordic Meisters, the largest weekly cross country ski race series in the country, kicks off on Tuesday, January 8. For eight weeks, skiers of all abilities challenge themselves with prizes awarded in age categories and through a raffle. For 2008, an untimed category has been added for those who want to enjoy the series but not the pressure that can come with racing.
Nordic Meisters runs every Tuesday (except February 19) for eight weeks starting January 8, 2008 through March 4, 2008. Participants race against the clock on the 5km Nordic Meister course or 2.5 kilometer short course in the Skate and/or Classic category. The series consists of eight weeks of timed runs with the six best times selected for series-end standings. The timing building is open and available between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:45 pm. All participants must check in with the starters prior to starting timed runs and all runs must be completed by 4:00 pm. With an adjustment system, all ages can compete on a level playing field. Results are posted at www.greatglentrails.com and published in the Conway Daily Sun each week.
An awards party will be held on March 15 at the end of the series with the top three skiers in each class awarded trophies, while all participants completing six out of eight weeks are entered into a prize raffle.
New for 2008: Untimed Category. With the new untimed category, participants have the opportunity to enjoy the fun social atmosphere of Nordic Meister without worrying about their times. Best of all, each untimed participant that completes six of eight weeks will still qualify for the prize raffle.
