Beat the Heat
Ever thought of going up to cool off?
It's the middle of summer and the mercury...or at least the digital readout...is rising. Most folks, when not hiding inside with the air conditioning set at "igloo," dream about heading to the beach to cool off. Lying in the sun on the hot sand? That doesn't strike me as cooling off. Personally, I prefer to go up high. Seriously, the temperature on the summit of Mt. Washington has never been higher than 72 degrees. As I type this, it's a cool 63. Doesn't that sound better than the 90's that are steaming outside your office window? So, this weekend don't head to the beach, head to the mountains. It's cool. It's beautiful. And, best of all, you don't have to worry about sand in your bathing suit.

We are coming up on Saturday with 4 motorcycles and a mustang. Is the road in good shape even with all the storms that we have been getting?
I appreciate the updates. thanks

Hi Lisa,
You should enjoy the trip on Saturday, the weather sounds like it will be favorable through the weekend. The road surface is in good shape currently and I think it will be much the same for the weekend. The short gravel section is pretty tightly packed with just a small amount of loose stone - lots of bikes making the trip this week with good comments from them.

We drove up on 7/16/08. I'll give you this much, it was one hair-raising way to cool off. I think my heart stopped several times along the Auto Road.
