Rapid River

Lake Umbagog

I thought to myself, "It feels like August, and I like it".  I was in between surf sessions, catching my breath, sunning myself and my gear.  It must have been 85 degrees when the sun was shining.  The river was releasing plenty of water (1700cfs to be exact) for surfing at Smooth Ledge on the Rapid River.  This was more water than they (Florida Power and Lighting) typically release during the season.  The efforts to drain the lakes seems to have come early this year, but hey, I have no problem with that.

Many miles away from roads, towns, and help if I were to need it, I lay there...on the rock where I have spent so many hours before.  Today was different though.  My mind was clear of all problems, worries and drama.  I had four hours to throw myself around on the wave.  This would be more than enough time to become exhausted.  Working on my tricks and just playing around with different angles and moves I surfed into the afternoon.

For those of you who have been on the Rapid River, either for fishing, kayaking, or swimming, you know what a special place it is.  For those of you who have not, I urge you to call me to set up a time for your private adventure to a place so special, it is hard to find on the map.

The Rapid River is a special place. I am so glad people enjoy the peacefulness the rapids offer.
