Numbering Suggestion

Postby colinr on Tue Aug 12, 2008 7:58 am

Hey Great Glen crew, I have a suggestion for how to improve your race next year.

When I was out riding like a zombie in the night, I spent a lot of time looking at racers' backs as we passed each other. And I thought to myself, "who the hell is that, and are they in my class?" All the solos had those rear yellow numbers, but everyone else had nothing.

So I would be stoked if more people got rear numbers with colors on them. It would be awesome if every class got a different color, but that would be like, 20 colors or something. Really useful for racers though! But, if that's too much hassle, you could start by giving the pair teams red numbers.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, when I riding into various trees at 11 am, it would have been nice to have a red number on my saddle so people knew why I couldn't ride a bike anymore :) But also it would be cool to be able to know anyone's class -- or at least how many riders were on their team -- easily.

Thanks for the suggestion Colin! We'll take it into consideration and see if we can come up with a plan for next year.

Definitely liked having numbers on the back to see who I was catching or if that person that got by before I noticed them was someone to worry about and chase down. I got lucky last year and saw the front plate of the guy I needed to chase down on the last lap. Definitely an awesome suggestion and improvement for this year!!

If you were not able to come up with a colored number system, how about just drawing a symbol with a magic marker on the numbers? there are only 10 or so divisions, so, for example, draw a "MB" with a circle around it for mens beginner, MS for sport, ME expert etc etc...if you draw it all in the sameplace, then everyone knows where to look
