Snow: Good for the body and soul
Chris, our retail, ski rental, bike mechanic extraordinaire, told me she had a good idea for a blog post. She said it just came to her while she was skiing. So here it is:
I had to take a brief moment to share my thoughts about skiing at the most beautiful, relaxing and peaceful time. I decided to go skiing before work and I am so glad that I did! There were a couple of inches of light, fluffy snow in the tracks that were groomed earlier that morning. The snow was softly and serenely falling, no wind. All the trees were covered in lovely white snow. It was like a “picture print from Currier and Ives” or so the song goes.
Just very tranquil and peaceful and it got me to thinking how if everyone could see and experience a perfect moment of peace, what a different world there could be. As I was gliding (well sort of) along and working to get up some of those hills, I could see the snow sliding over my skis and around my boots. I can feel my heart beating in double time and know that internally how my body is benefiting from the exercise. But even more important is how my mind/soul is really reaping the benefits.
When I’m on the trails I have time to let my mind kind of wander and when I had reached the thought about the mind and soul benefiting from the ski, I paused just for a moment to listen… All I could hear was the snow falling all around and my heart thumping away, perfect moment of peace.
Snow it’s good for the body and soul.
Chris ☺
Good stuff, Chris! Now back to work!

Sounds good. I need some of that. How much does it cost?

I am not surprised, but very moved, by Chris' sublime and erudite reflections on nature while skiing, because I have observed, enviously, that she seems to experience the same euphoria while working on my mountain bike disc brakes in July (!?!?!?!) Is it that she is operating at a spiritual level somewhat beyond my earthly, halcyon, self-centered perspective? I must reflect more often. Thanks, Chris.
