The looks from the non-racers.

Yesterday as I was <strike>skiing</strike> <strike>struggling</strike> flailing up Great Grumpy Grade during Nordic Meisters, I came across two touring skiers just out for the day headed in the opposite direction. I really wish I had been able to take a picture of their faces. They looked genuinely concerned for my well-being and utterly baffled by me at the same time. All I was able to do was pant out a weak "Thanks" after they waited (and waited, and waited, and waited) for me to reach the top. It was a hilarious collosion of the opposite ends of this great sport.

I was out racing, trying to go fast and to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. However, these people were just out enjoying the day, enjoying the snow, getting some fresh air and generally having a great time. And I think that's one of things I love about cross country skiing: You can do both and there's room for everyone. I don't go out there to hammer every day. Sometimes, just like the people I met, I just want to cruise along and enjoy the scenery.

From what I can tell, we both had a great day. I just hope their faces didn't stick like that.
