On Groundhogs

This is how I want to wake up. (AP Photo)

Is any of this necessary?

I'll say it: Using a rodent to predict the weather is foolish.

This is not just a reaction to the famous Punxsutawney Phil not seeing his shadow and predicting an early spring. Sure, that would bum me out. But I have never understood this. I remember being a little kid and asking: "They really believe what the groundhog says?" Smart and cute.

The whole thing is just ridiculous. Not to mention they pull this poor animal out of wherever it's hiding and hold it in the air, parade it around and generally scare the bejesus out of him. Do you think ol' Phil sees a dime for his trouble? And, yes, all thos guys in the hats are crazy.

That being said, Phil better be wrong. Or I'm coming after him.
