The Arctic Chill

(More blog entries from ryan)

Boo hoo hoo

Sometimes in the winter it gets cold. I can't believe all the TV meteorologists talking about "arctic chill," "brutal cold" and "death and destruction." OK, maybe not the last part, but they make it seem like anyone who goes outside when the temperatures are in the teens in going to die instantly. This is of course not true. Yes, it can be cold, but if you dress appropriately, you'll be fine. Basically, our country has gone soft. You don't see people in Finland complaining about cold temperatures.

And don't get me started about the Weather Channel. They're based in Atlanta. Yeah, the one in Georgia. "Hotlanta." Drives me nuts.

"The colder the better," I say. It's winter.

I'm with you kid. Bring on the cold. It will snow some day...it has to. I need the snow to kayak this spring. Must get that run-off snow piling up in all the mountain gullies. Weather channel? Ya, when anyone can find a weather channel that is on the ball, let me know. Let's watch the predictions and results coming up with this next storm for Friday...

I'm particularly amused when they ramp up to a "big storm" event by donning sweaters and playing the dramatic "storm center" music. Give me a break. And given the fact they're wrong so many times in their predictions, wouldn't it be fun just once this winter if they were wrong in the right direction and we got 24" instead of the 2" - 3" predicted. Where is Don Kent when you need him? At least he relied on good forecasting skills and not just computer models. Bring on the snow and the cold - this is New England, we *like* winter!

Is it true that with the frigid polar cold that GG will begin to offer FREE green waxing???????? And Ryan will wax and scrape the skis????? And Nate will brush them out?????

Ed - In order to truly enjoy the glide from green, you need to scrape and brush it yourself. More fulfilling that way. I drove by a bank sign last night, digital time and temp type. It read 24 degrees, and I thought, "Ooh warm." I love winter.

Ryan won't scrape? Then I guess it's back to the Roto-brush.....

Those roto brushes are sweet. D won't let me get one because it involves using a power tool. Power tools and I do not get along.

You guys are funny! It will be in the 80s here this weekend and "Storm Watch" in southern CA means it might rain. Give the Weather Channel guys a break...in what other job can you be wrong 50% of the time and still make the big bucks! I miss having "weather."
