If April showers bring May flowers, what does 30 inches of April snow bring?

About 30" of new snow at the base of the Road thanks to the Nor'easter. More at higher elevations. Just crazy.

It's not quite back to square-one, it might even be a little before that.

Once we have the Road cleared to halfway, we leave the heavy equipment up there. This allows us easier access to the upper portions of the Road. No sense bringing a bucket loader 4 miles back down to the base, when we know we'll need it at 6 mile. And normally, if it snows, we can put the chains on the pickup truck and plow our way back to halfway. Standard operating procedure.

However, remember that Nor'easter? The snow was so wet and so heavy that we could barely plow the Road back to the one-mile post. So working together with crews from the Mount Washington Observatory and Mt. Washington State Park, the Road Crew will be heading up the Road on foot to retrieve the equipment. So a little longer day than anyone had hoped for, but the process continues.

Ah, spring in the White Mountains.

Love the new blog. It's very interesting. I plow snow for a town in MA, but I've never had to walk through that much snow to get my equipment! Keep the info coming!

gee, this is getting rugged all around, Ryan. I guess I'll just stay at Wildcat until the Peabody overflows and takes me down to the Road! Take heart, temps for the next week look to be favorable for melt action . Mother Nature giveth, and she can take it away, too. See you soon! Sue

Looks like we left Dodge just in time! Heard Joe had an "interesting" snowshoe up the Auto road the other day. That kind of news even travels out here to CA! Hope the weather changes soon for all of you - I can only imagine that you'd like to see the last of the snow since it doesn't seem to want to fall in January. Howie and Sue

Wow! I'm just back in town after eight days away and find more snow than we had in January. While on vacation I had hopes we might get open this week. Not.
