I'm Competitive

...but not that competitive

From the "Only In America" file, the annual Fourth of July tradition that has come to truly define what America is all about took place again yesterday: The Hot Dog Eating Championship at Coney Island. Is there anything more American than downing hot dog after hot dog after hot dog after hot dog?

The winner was Joey Chestnut. He defeated the six-time defending champ, Takeru Kobayashi of Japan, by eating 66 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes. That's not a typo.

I'm a competitive guy. Put a challenge in front of me, and I'll take it on. I like to win. Whatever it is. But, there is no way I'm going to try to eat all those hot dogs. That's just gross. Then again, I'm sure Joey Chestnut would think I'm nuts for skiing that last day of Nordic Meisters last year. Remember that wind? I love a challenge.

Here's the story from ESPN for those with strong constitutions.

UPDATE: Apparently, this is the "greatest moment in American sports history." Video includes a slow motion replay of Kobayashi's "reversal." YUK
